Access to Success Scholarship / Award: $500

The Access to Success Scholarship was created to honor Dr. Dorsey L. Kendrick her retirement from Gateway Community College after 17 years who is a tireless advocate for open access to higher education. Scholarship is for a student in an Associate degree program, must have a financial need an EFC of $2,000 or less, and a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Anna Lanaro Memorial endowed scholarship/ Award $600

The Anna Lanaro Memorial Scholarship was created in memory of Anna Lanaro for a student for whom English is their second language, must have taken at least one English as a Second Language (ESL) course. Minimum GPA: 2.5

Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Nursing/Allied Health Scholarship / Award: $1,000

Established by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield ● Minimum GPA: 2.5 ● Completed 30 or more credits ● Enrolled in the Nursing/Allied Health program ● Financial need

Carmen 'Snooky' Parlato Scholarship/ Award $600

● A male or female student enrolled in the Automotive Technology program at Gateway Community College ● Taking six or more credits ● Preference given to students who hold a full-time job or have significant family responsibilities ● Minimum GPA: 2.5

Chaine des Rostisseurs CT Biallage Gabor Huszar Scholarship/ Award $2,000

The Confrerie de la Chaine des Rostisseurs CT Biallage created a scholarship for a student in the Culinary Arts, Food Service Management or Restaurant & Food Service Management program.

Charles and Ann Robinson Book Scholarship for Human Service Students/Psychology Scholarship/ Award $250

Book scholarship book for Gateway students with a special focus towards veterans or student from a military family
● Veteran or student from a military family ● Taken at least 3 courses in psychology, sociology and/or cultural anthropology ● Participated in at least one riveting community service project in the social science/human service area that is focused on helping military veterans or a son or daughter of a military veteran or a spouse of a military veteran ● Expressed written interest in the study of social work or psychology ● Minimum GPA: 3.0

Chenard Family Scholarship / Award: $500

The Chenard Family scholarship was established to honor the Chenard Family. Scholarship is for tuition, fees, books or living expenses.
● Completion of at least one semester at Gateway ● Demonstrated aptitude and/or interest in Math, Science, or Humanities ● Financial need demonstrated by an estimated family contribution of $2,000 or less ● Minimum GPA: 3.20

CIU Travel Italian Culture Scholarship/ Award $750

Scholarship for students with a strong interest in Italian cuisine and culture.

Cody Leadership Fellowship/ Award $350

The Cody Leadership Fellowship is awarded to a student who: – Demonstrates leadership within Gateway student community; – Demonstrates empathy, compassion, and kindness to his/her fellow students; – Demonstrates financial need.

Community Foundation for Greater New Haven/ Award $750

Named in honor of the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven’s contribution to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies. ● Minimum GPA: 3.50

Connecticut Public Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Connecticut Public’s contribution to the Gateway Community College Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/needs based scholarship for students in the CSCU Transfer: Communications Studies program that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Minimum GPA: 3.0

CT Power & Energy Society Scholarship/ Award $1,000

For a student who has been accepted or participating in the Public Utility Management
• Program Financial aid with an EFC of $2,000 or less.
• Minimum GPA 3.0

Curran Business Administration: Management Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses. — Minimum GPA: 2.75 — Enrolled in Business Administration: Management program.

Curran College of Technology Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies at Gateway Community College — Minimum GPA: 2.75 — Enrolled in Engineering Science or Technological Studies Program program

Curran Computer Science Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies at Gateway Community College ● Minimum GPA: 2.75 ● Enrolled in a Computer Science program

 

Curran General Studies Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses. ● Minimum GPA: 2.75 ● Enrolled in General Studies program.

Curran Liberal Arts Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses. ● Minimum GPA: 2.75 ● Enrolled in Liberal Arts program.

 

Curran Public Utility Management Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses. — Minimum GPA: 2.75 — Enrolled in Public Utility Management program

 

Curran Railroad Technology Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses — Minimum GPA: 2.75 — Enrolled in Railroad Engineering Technology or Railroad Engineering Technology: Signaling & Communications Option

Curran Studio Arts/Graphic Arts Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies ● Enrolled in Studio Arts or Studio Arts: Graphic Design program ● Minimum GPA: 2.75

 

David Servin Memorial Scholarship/ Award $750

A scholarship for tuition, books, and supplies.
● Liberal Arts and Sciences major ● Have demonstrated interest or plan to pursue a degree in social work ● Demonstrates an interest in helping others and has overcome personal obstacles. ● Minimum GPA: 2.5

Donald Lostritto Engineering Technology Scholarship/ Award $1,000

Scholarship created by former Electrical Engineering Technology Professor Donald Lostritto. This scholarship is for a student in any Engineering Technology program, have earned at least 30 credits, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Dr. Shelia Solernou Nursing Scholarship/ Award $275

This scholarship in named in honor of Dr. Solernou retired Nursing Director Gateway Community College Nursing Program. Dr. Solernou has demonstrated years of dedication to the nursing program starting in 2002 with Dr. Dorsey Kendricks.
The purpose of this scholarship is to aid person(s) accepted into the nursing program at Gateway Community College who aspire to go above and beyond for not only the nursing field but the community.

Elbert and Cheryl Anderson Pegues Book Scholarship/ Award $400

Resident of Hamden or New Haven, Conn., or born in W. Va. ● Must be eligible for financial aid ● Must be active in a Gateway Community College student group or outside community service organization ● Minimum GPA: 3.0

Enrico J. “Rick” Mastronardi Jr. Scholarship/ Award $500

The Enrico J. “Rick” Mastronardi Jr. Scholarship was created in memory of Prof. Rick Mastrondardi who taught in the First Year Studies program. • For a student who has successfully completed ENG 066 or ENG091 or ENG 099 and has shown proficiency in college writing, reading, and communication skills • student who has demonstrated intellectual curiosity and is willing to engage in public discourse when called upon in the classroom • Letter of recommendation must be from a First-Year Studies faculty member • Must be eligible for ENG 101 • Minimum GPA 2.75 • Scholarship may be awarded in fall, spring or summer semesters.

Esther Spiegel Memorial Scholarship/ Award $600

  • GPA 3.0
  • Demonstrated financial need
  • Participate in community service which may include any of the following: Community service conducted while a part of a Gateway Student Organization, volunteering with a local house of worship, volunteering at a child’s school, coaching a sport team, volunteering with a nonprofit organization or any other volunteerism.

Eunice Roberts Kessler Memorial Scholarship/ Award $500

Retired Prof. Karen Kessler of the Gateway CC Nursing program, created a scholarship in memory of her mother, Eunice Roberts Kessler. The scholarship is for a second-year Nursing student with a minimum GPA of 2.8.

For Cameron, Inc./ Award $500

Scholarship in honor of the late Cameron Herr. Preferred for student in Drug and Alcohol Recovery Counselor Program. Minimum GPA 2.5. Scholarship will be distributed for tuition, books or supplies.

Frances Barone Randi Scholarship/ Award $250

Scholarship created in memory of Professor Andrew Randi’s mother, Frances Barone Randi, for students in Culinary Arts or Professional Baking programs. Students must exhibit financial need, EFC of less than $2,000.00. Minimum GPA 2.75.

Francis S. Noonan Scholarship/ Award $450

Funded by the Noonan Family in honor of Francis S. Noonan, who was a member of the Board of Trustees of Connecticut’s Technical Colleges (1979-83)
● Graduating student majoring in an Engineering Technology, Computer Science Technology, or Automotive program ● Must demonstrate involvement in activities ● Letter of Recommendation must come from program coordinator of your program of study.

Frank Adam Jurczyk Scholarship/ Award $750

Established by Thomas Jurczyk in memory of his father
● Financial need ● Resident of New Haven County. ● U.S. citizen ● Recipient can accept no other scholarship.

Frank and Susan Kozarec Belief in Education Scholarship/ Award $2,500

• Student must be enrolled in a two-year degree program
• Preference shall be given to student with financial need who do not qualify for federal or state financial aid/grants
• Testing fees, books, calculators, supplies

Frank J. Gallagher Scholarship/ Award $1,000

The Frank J. Gallagher Scholarship was created to honor Frank J. Gallagher, an inspirational Computer Science professor at Gateway Community College. The scholarship is for an adult student at least 25 years of age, not on financial aid, enrolled in a Computer Science degree program, earned a minimum of 30 credits, have a GPA of at least 3.2.

Fred W. & Ivy Thomas McKinney Scholarship/ Award $600

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses.
● Enrolled in Entrepreneurial program ● Minimum GPA: 2.50

Freddy & Eusebio Luna Scholarship/ Award $250

Scholarship in memory of Freddy and Eusebio Luna, brothers of Wilson Luna, Dean of Students at Gateway Community College. Student must have an EFC of $2,000 or less. Minimum GPA: 2.50

Frederick DeLuca Scholarship / Award: $2,000

Awarded to students who have demonstrated academic achievement, as well as financial need.
● Minimum GPA: 3.2 ● Demonstrated financial need ● Participation in extra-curricular activities ● Employed while attending school.

G-MEN Scholarship / Award: $500

Male student accepted into the Nursing program at Gateway Community College

J. Yang ESL Scholarship/ Award $250

Created by Librarian J. Yang. The scholarship is for a student in ESL certificate program or have completed ESL program. First year student in Science, Engineering, Nursing, Allied Health or Humanities program. Must have completed 12 credits, minimum GPA 3.0

Jan Trifiatis Business Scholarship/ Award $500

Recognize a continuing Business major who demonstrates an ability to balance a full student, work and family life ● A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies ● Minimum GPA: 2.5 ● 9 credits minimum completed or in process in Business Department coursework ● Must be a declared Business major in a certificate or degree program.

Jason Richardson Scholarship/ Award $500

Named in memory of Jason Richardson, husband Althea Marshall Brooks Gateway Foundation Board Member
● New Haven resident ● Minimum GPA: 2.5 ● Enrolled in Liberal Arts or Art Program

Julianne Perego-Mangini Radiography Scholarship/ Award $305

Julianne Perego-Mangini began her career at Gateway Community College as an adjunct Radiologic Technology instructor in 1976. She served as the Radiography Program Director and Allied Health Director from 1986 – 1995. She went on to serve the College in various administrative roles until she returned to the classroom as a Radiography faculty member in 2000. In December 2015, Professor Mangini retired from the College after almost 40 years of dedicated service. In honor of her retirement, the Julianne Perego-Mangini Scholarship has been established to help provide financial support to an eligible student in the Radiography program.  Scholarship is for tuition, books and supplies. ● A first generation college student ● A graduate of a Connecticut high school ● Enrolled in the Radiography Program in good standing ● Minimum GPA: 3.00

Laptop Scholarship / Award $700 

Thanks to generous donors — 11 laptop scholarships will be offered to Gateway students— ● Must be attending Gateway during the Fall 2023 semester ● Minimum GPA: 2.00

Larry A. Laukhuf Memorial Scholarship / Award: $750

Scholarship is for tuition, books and supplies.
● A preference for a student worker in Publication Services ● Minimum GPA: 3.0

Margaret Bauer Scholarship/ Award $1,000

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses.
● Minimum GPA: 2.5 ● Enrolled in one of the Business Office Technology associate degree programs

Margaret McAllister Spain Memorial Scholarship/ Award $300

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, supplies or living expenses.
● Minimum GPA: 2.75 ● Demonstrates commitment to his/her community ● Enrolled in Early Childhood Education Continued Study program.

Margery P. Weston Nursing Scholarship/ Award $500

Named in memory of Margery P. Weston this scholarship is for tuition, fees and other expenses. Student must be: – Accepted or enrolled in the Nursing program; – Minimum GPA: 2.70

Marie Marinaccio Memorial Scholarship/ Award $300

Named in memory of Marie Marinaccio, mother of Gateway Community College Foundation Board member Carol Marinaccio.
● A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books and supplies ● Enrolled in Early Childhood Career, or Nursing program ● Female student

Mario Fasano Scholarship/ Award $550

In memory of Mario Fasano, a Gateway student.
• For an adult learner who has returned to school after facing adversity to seek a degree to better him/herself. The Student should be heavily involved in student leadership roles on campus or who has worked as a student employee at GCC for two semesters. The student shall embody the spirit of Mario Fasano with his/her dedication to GCC and passion for learning. • Minimum GPA: 2.5 • Graduating students who are transferring to another college or university may apply for the scholarship.

Mark Ojakian Criminal Studies Scholarship/ Award $500

Named in honor of Mark Ojakian’s service as President of the Connecticut State Universities & Colleges. Scholarship is for a student in the CSCU Transfer: Criminal Studies or Criminal Justice program. Minimum GPA: 2.5.

Mary Randazzo Memorial Scholarship/ Award $500

The scholarship was established in honor of Dean Rose R. Ellis’s mother. The purpose of the Fund is to enable recipients to attend Gateway Community College. The Fund will award assistance to deserving students to support their attendance at Gateway. Tuition awards will be made directly to GCC on behalf of the students.

McFarland & Student Nurses Association Scholarship / Award: $500​

The McFarland & Student Nurses Association (SNA) Scholarship was established by Prof. Barbara McFarland and the Gateway CC SNA. It is for a graduating senior nursing student; active in the SNA through their nursing education at Gateway Community College, letter from SNA Advisor required; Matriculated or applied to a Bachelor’s in Science Nursing (BSN), copy of acceptance letter or application required.

Miguel A. Garcia-Negron Memorial Scholarship/ Award $250

Named in memory of Miguel A. García-Negrón, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Gateway Community College and a founding professor of Greater New Haven State Technical College. Awarded to a full-time student who has a strong interest in mathematics, has completed at least 12 credits at Gateway Community College, is a current full-time student (at least 12 credits) at Gateway Community College, and is enrolled in Calculus I (currently MAT 254) or higher. Minimum overall GPA 3.0/minimum math GPA 3.33.

Norman H. Wuestefeld Scholarship/ Award $1,000

Named in memory of Norman H. Wuestefeld, who served as a board member of the Gateway Community College Foundation and on several Foundation committees.
● Minimum GPA: 2.75 ● Enrolled in an Engineering Technology program, Engineering Science or Technology Studies program.

North Haven Rotary Foundation Scholarship / $1,000

● Resident of North Haven ● Enrolled in Automotive, Electrical, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering Technology preferred ● Must attend a North Haven Rotary breakfast ● Minimum GPA: 2.5

Paul Swann Athletics Scholarship/ Award $600

Scholarship named in honor of Paul Swann, former director of athletics. A need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies. ● Must be on the men’s or women’s basketball team ● Minimum GPA: 2.50

People's United Bank Scholarship / Award: $250

Named in honor of People’s United Bank’s contributions to Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. — Enrolled in Business Administration: Management program —Minimum GPA: 2.5

Philomena M. Abell Nursing Scholarship / Award: $300

Named in memory of the mother of a Gateway Community College faculty member.
● Minimum GPA: 2.75 after completing 12 credits ● Accepted or enrolled in the Nursing program

Quinnipiac University Scholarship / Award: $750

Named in honor of Quinnipiac University’s contributions to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. Demonstrated financial need. Minimum GPA – 3.0.

Richard Fiore Memorial Scholarship/ Award $1,000

● Minimum GPA: 3.0 ● A Mathematics, Science or Nursing student.

Robinson + Cole Scholarship / Award: $500

Named in honor of Robinson & Cole’s support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event.

Ruby Melton & Gail McAvay Equity and Social Justice Scholarship/ Award $1,000

Applicants must have

  • demonstrated engagement in equity work at Gateway or in the Greater New Haven community that centers on gender equity, racial equity and social justice, LGBTQ+, immigrants and/or refugees.

Southern Connecticut State University Foundation Scholarship / Award: $750

Named in honor of Southern Connecticut State University Foundation’s contribution to the Gateway Community College Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/needs based scholarship that can be used for tuition, books or supplies. Minimum GPA: 3.0

Susan K. Swirsky Business Office Technology Scholarship/ Award: $1,000

The Susan K. Swirsky Business Office Technology Scholarship was created to honor Susan Swirsky for her dedication to the Phi Theta Kappa Chapter at Gateway Community College. Student must be enrolled in one of the Business Office Technology programs. Minimum GPA of 2.5.

The CT Classic Chevy Scholarship/ Award $1,000

In Honor of Fallen Club Members Scholarship: Gateway Community College Automotive student who is a participant in the General Motors Service Education program AC-Delco service facility • Minimum GPA 2.75

The Eder Family Foundation/ Award $750

Named in The Eder Family Foundation contributions to the Gateway Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. Demonstrated financial need. Minimum GPA – 3.0.

The Washington Trust Charitable Foundation Scholarship/ Award $500

The purpose of this Fund is to enable recipients to attend GCC. The Fund will award this scholarship to deserving students to assist in financing their attendance at GCC. Awards will be made directly to GCC on behalf of the students.

Thomas Griggs Jr. Arts Scholarship/ Award $500

The Thomas Griggs Jr. scholarship was created to honor Thomas’s induction into the Gateway Community College Foundation Hall of Fame. The scholarship can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Must be enrolled in an Arts program. Minimum GPA: 2.5.

UIL/SCG Scholarship / Award: $750

Named in honor of UIL/SCG’s contribution to the Gateway Community College Foundation’s Hall of Fame event. A merit/needs based scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, or supplies. Minimum GPA: 3.0

Williams Service-Learning Scholarship / Award: $500

A merit/need scholarship that can be used for tuition, books, and supplies. – Minimum GPA: 2.5 – At least 10 hours per semester documented active participation in service and/or service-learning activities sponsored by Gateway Community College.

Workforce Alliance Scholarship/ Award $750

Named in honor of Workforce Alliance’s support of the Gateway Foundation Hall of Fame event.

Yale University Scholarship/ Award $500

Named in honor of Gateway Community College 2022 Hall of Fame “Hometown Hero Scholarship.
