Across the Finish Line: How the Last Mile Scholarship Changed Seven Futures
For many students, the final stretch toward graduation isn’t just about coursework—it’s about overcoming financial hurdles that threaten to derail years of hard work. The Last Mile Emergency Fund Scholarship at CT State Community College Gateway was created for exactly this moment.
This year, thanks to funds raised through the Hall of Fame and a generous donation from Beverly Hodgson, seven students received the support they needed to complete their degrees. Partnering with Dr. LaRue Pierce, Dean of Students, the Foundation identified students at risk of being dropped due to unpaid balances. With the Financial Aid Office’s guidance, eligible students in their final semester were given the chance to apply, ensuring that financial need didn’t become a barrier to their success.
The impact? Seven students who might have had to walk away from their education are now on track to graduate—ready to step into their futures with confidence.
This is more than just a scholarship; it’s a bridge to possibility. And it’s made possible by those who believe in the power of education to change lives.
