From Family Priorities to Nursing School: How Stephani Found Her Path at Gateway

Juggling family, work, and a lifelong dream, Stephani Izzo knew that studying to be a nurse would not be easy. Because her son was entering his senior year of high school, and college was on his horizon, timing and finances were major concerns. “I wanted to be a nurse for a long time, but every time I applied the timing wasn’t right,” she said. Stephani worried about the impact on her family, especially during such an important year for her son.
Stephani applied for and received a scholarship from the Gateway Community College Foundation. “My biggest fear was having to drop out,” she explained. “Being able to cover my expenses without taking from what we provide my children gave me peace of mind. I took a breath of relief and believed everything happens for a reason.”
“I want to say thank you not only for me, but for my family. There are so many people struggling in today’s economy who think they cannot pursue education, and scholarships open doors they might not otherwise have.”
