Gateway Alumni Network Connects at September Meeting in New Haven

The Alumni Network came together this month for an engaging conversation about the future of the Network. Dr. Roberta Hoskie, Network Advisory Board leader, opened the meeting with introductions and highlighted recent progress, including the launch of the new logo, website, and LinkedIn presence, as well as upcoming events. She emphasized the shared mission to grow the network, create mentorship opportunities, and foster a culture of giving.

Dr. Hoskie also shared encouraging engagement results. Since its launch on May 1, the Alumni Network LinkedIn page has reached 6,556 impressions. Our alumni newsletter continues to gain momentum, with 6,217 subscribers and a steadily rising open rate.

Dr. Shiang-Kwei Wang, Gateway’s new Campus President, offered an institutional update, noting Gateway’s continued enrollment growth and her vision for strengthening alumni connections. She encouraged alumni to stay engaged through social media, newsletters, and events such as the Career and Innovation Conference. She also shared exciting updates, including the new Respiratory Therapy program set to launch at Gateway in 2026.

Dr. Wang closed by inviting alumni to join the Workforce Career and Innovations Summit on November 13, which will feature Gateway’s Public Utilities programs.

The open discussion generated creative ideas, such as hosting a Homecoming event modeled after Southern’s and creating a campaign to celebrate Gateway Scholars. Alumni also considered ways to reach graduates from our legacy institutions, including Greater New Haven Technical College, South Central Community College, and Gateway.

The meeting wrapped up with a call to action in support of the upcoming Hall of Fame on October 23, 2025. Alumni were encouraged to contribute to the Silent Auction by donating gift certificates, wine, or unique experiences. Those in attendance committed to putting together a basket that will be featured in the auction.

The next Alumni Network meeting will be held virtually on Monday, October 27, from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
