How One Planned Gift Honors a Mother and Uplifts Generations

When you include the Gateway Community College Foundation in your estate plans, you create a legacy that endures, a commitment to students who dream big and work hard to build a better future.

That’s exactly what retired Gateway faculty member Anita Ellis did when she named the Foundation as a beneficiary in her estate. Her bequest intention was inspired by her mother, Ana Lanaro, who emigrated from Argentina as a child, learned English under difficult circumstances, and instilled in Anita the unshakable belief that education could change everything.

Anita’s planned gift will build the Anna Lanaro Memorial endowed scholarship, supporting students for whom English is not a first language, students like her mother once was, so they can rise, succeed, and feel that they belong.

Legacy gifts like Anita’s speak to the heart of what Gateway represents: opportunity, resilience, and the power of one generation uplifting the next.
