CT State Community College Nursing Students will receive help and support thanks to a generous new scholarship founded to honor the memory of Linda Dore. The Gateway Community College Foundation was selected by Linda’s loving family to manage the fund which will make its first scholarship awards in 2026.
About Linda
Linda Joanne Lee Dore passed away January 7, 2025. Linda was born on October 9, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA to Fern Mary Davis Lee and Leonard Joseph Lee. Her parents introduced her to her beloved husband of 60 years, Michael Dore, at the Madison Golf Club in Madison, NJ in 1960.
She was a longtime resident of Westbrook, CT, moving there in 1973, where she raised her three children, Timothy, Brian, and Melinda. Linda had a large circle of friends, most of whom she met at the First Congregational Church of Westbrook or the Town Beach, and held close relationships with neighbors and co-workers. She and her husband downsized to West Hartford in 2021, where she was an active member of First Church West Hartford and loved her long walks in Elizabeth Park.
Linda graduated from Chatham High School in Chatham, NJ in 1960 and remained active in the organization of class reunions, keeping in touch with life-long friends. She graduated with a BS in Nursing from Duke University in 1964. As a Registered Nurse, she had a hospital career in pediatric nursing in Chapel Hill, NC (UNC), Hartford, CT (St. Francis), and Akron, OH (Children’s) before practicing nursing at Wildwood Pediatrics in Essex, CT until her retirement.
Linda was an enthusiastic skier, loved hiking, travel and golf. At home, she was an avid knitter, reader, and cook. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who always made family a priority and never missed celebrating family milestones with dinner around the table.
She is survived by her husband Michael; son Timothy and daughter-in-law Lisa and their children Nicholas, Henry, and Caroline; son Brian and daughter-in-law Maria Gabriella Landers; and daughter Melinda and son-in-law Matthew Asensio and their daughter Sadie. Linda is also survived by her niece Cynthia Lynn Law and nephews Craig Sandberg, Jamie Dore, and Greg Dore.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Fern Mary Davis Lee and Leonard Joseph Lee, and her sister Nancy Jane Lee Sandberg.
