Maritza Sanchez Godinez, an engineering science major at CT State Community College Gateway, was selected for the prestigious Soderstrom Scholars Fund (SSF). This generous scholarship is administered by a nonprofit dedicated to supporting under-represented students in STEM fields across Connecticut. The SSF fosters educational and career opportunities through scholarships, mentorship, and internships.

The Fund welcomed its inaugural cohort of scholars in the fall 2023 semester. Ten outstanding students from various Connecticut universities were chosen. Maritza stands out as the sole recipient from a community college, representing Gateway alongside students from institutions like UConn, Quinnipiac, University of New Haven, and two CT State Universities.

Maritza’s achievement highlights her exemplary academic record and underscores her dedication to pursuing excellence in engineering science and contributing to Connecticut’s STEM ecosystem.

Congratulations to Maritza Sanchez Godinez. Her success serves as an inspiration to students pursuing STEM degrees at community colleges and beyond.

Maritza was introduced to the Soderstrum opportunity through the Gateway Foundation and its leaders’ networks.
