Pursuing Passions, On and Off the Field: Ethan Guay’s Story

Ethan Guay, a Sports Management major at CT State Community College Gateway, said sports have always been more than a pastime — they’re a lifelong calling. From childhood afternoons spent on the field to playing high school football, Ethan’s connection to sports shaped not only his identity but also his dreams for the future.

At Gateway, Ethan is channeling his love for the game into a career path that combines his passion for sports with a dedication to leadership. With ambitions of working in player development, scouting, or recruiting for collegiate or professional football teams, Ethan is taking every step to ensure his goals become reality.

His journey hasn’t been without challenges. Like many students, Ethan faced financial barriers that threatened to hold him back. But thanks to the Gateway Community College Foundation laptop scholarship, he received a vital tool for academic success: a new laptop. “Laptops are so expensive,” Ethan shared. “Having one provided for me removed a huge burden and allowed me to focus entirely on my studies and future.”

With a 3.94 GPA, membership in Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, and hands-on experiences such as assisting on an NFL player value statistical project, Ethan is paving the way for a remarkable future. He plans to transfer to the University of Florida, his dream school, to pursue a bachelors and Master of Science in Sports Management, while interning with the football team and building connections within the industry.

Stories like Ethan’s are made possible by the generosity of donors who believe in the power of education to transform lives. Scholarships and resources like laptops give students the tools they need to succeed — both in the classroom and beyond.
