The Power of Donor Support: Angela Kobs’ Journey from Dog Groomer to Graphic Artist

Angela Kobs spent 15 years working as a dog groomer before deciding to pursue a lifelong passion for graphic art.

With the support of scholarships, she found the courage to follow her dreams. It’s not easy, she balances classwork with the joys and challenges of mothering her son, Marcus.

“ Gateway has become my happy place,” Angela shared as she reflected on the encouragement and warmth she has felt since her first day on campus.

She gains hands on experience and confidence in her craft through her job in the college’s print shop. For Angela, receiving a scholarship meant more than financial assistance, it meant someone believed in her and her future. It allowed her to focus on her studies and care for Marcus without constantly worrying about bills. As she looks toward her graduation in Spring 2026, Angela dreams of returning to give back to the Gateway community that has given her so much.
