Your Investment in Students Like Nuha Ibrahim Changes Everything

Nuha Ibrahim’s journey is a powerful reminder of why your support matters.

She arrived in the U.S. in 2008 with hope in her heart but after just one semester, high tuition costs forced her to walk away from college. Life moved forward, Nuha became a wife then mother. She put her personal dreams aside.

With encouragement from her husband and the help of a scholarship from the Gateway Community College Foundation, Nuha found her way back.

She enrolled at CT State Community College Gateway as a social services major, balancing coursework with raising three children and working full-time. She often studied late into the night and doubted she could keep going. But she persevered.

Nuha graduated this spring and was named to the 2025 All-Connecticut Academic Team, one of the highest academic honors for a CT community college student. She even received official recognition from Governor Ned Lamont.

“This scholarship lifted a weight I didn’t realize I was carrying,” Nuha shared. “It gave me the chance to keep moving forward when I didn’t think I could.”

Today, she works at Havenly, helping immigrant and refugee women find stable employment and self-worth. She plans to transfer to a four-year institution to study criminal justice or social work. Her dream is to advocate for women on a global scale.

“I’m not just doing this for me,” she says. “I’m doing this for my children and for every woman who deserves the chance to live fully.”

Because of donors like you, Nuha’s story isn’t about hardship. Hers is a story of  triumph.
